IN QUEST OF RIG VEDIC ARCHAEOLOGY

Historical findings and analysis have a close association with both the sources of study, literature and Archaeology. Unless and until both the sources are thoroughly examined, research in the field of history cannot be concluded in right perspective. We have a corpus of literature related to historical period designated as Vedic. Rig Veda in itself is considered as a library instead of a literary source by most historians. While going through the Rig Veda we witness a panoramic view of Rig Vedic people residing in the North-western part of India during C 1500-1000 BC. Information from Rig Veda makes one curious about the Vedic altars, somras, bovines and rathas frequently mentioned in Rig Veda. In quest of these artefacts, when we look at archaeology, we are totally disappointed as Archaeological enquiries of the areas inhabited by of Rig Vedic Aryans are dissatisfying as compared to the panoramic description of the life in Rig Vedas. Today in the age of technological advancement, it is important and a necessity to enhance academic researches with new techniques and review History in light of the findings.
Why do Rig Vedic literary and Archaeological information of the period not support each other is a big question. Whether the dates and region assigned to Rig Vedic time frame are improper or some other geographical, environmental, climatic or Historical reason is responsible for it and what degree of toll they can take on artefacts and Archaeological remains or the narrations of Rig Veda should be taken as hypothetical instead of being actual. Whatever be the case it is important to re-analyse information from Rig Veda in light of Archaeology for proper assessment of Ancient Indian History as RigVeda and Aryans have played a very crucial role in contemporary Indian polity and society.
